The Big Play

for Oxjam - (for Ox .fam !)
Wednesday 25 October 2006
at The Tass bar, 1 The High Street, Edinburgh
9.15pm
(approx.) to 11.45pm (exactly !)
Thanks to everybody who supported this successful evening - in whatever way.

We raised £381.48 !!!

Here are some pictures from the night.
bar and banner Sandy Brechin
Here's a general view of the bar, with Patty's big banner at the end. The session's under way. This is our first star turn. Sandy Brechin looked in briefly and gave us a smart wee set before he had to head off north in the rain.
(Can you see the thought bubble above Hilary's head ?  It says "Aw, he makes it look so easy !")
Charlie Munro collecting bucket
Some more session music, a few more tunes, then next up was Charlie Munro. Here he's giving the operatic treatment to Ol Man River. All through the evening the collecting buckets were doing good business. That's Helena just checking there's no dud coins. (We had one Canadian cent, actually.)
Nigel Gatherer
Robin Harper
Nigel Gatherer came along from the Bennett's session and whistled his way through a few tunes - as well as bringing some money collected there. Thanks, folks !
Just in front of him is Cameron Gaskell, who did a sterling job as "set-starter" whenever required.
Another welcome visitor was Robin Harper MSP. Here he's singing us Will Ye Go, Lassie, Go ?  -  and getting a great sing-along response from the bar on the choruses; lots of nice harmonies too !
Cathie Peattie
Roy
You think it's impressive getting an MSP to sing at your gig ?  How about two ?  Cathy Peattie gave us a couple of songs. Fine singer.
Roy blows the samba whistle and tells us how much money we've got so far (about £200 at that point).
Raffle Prizes
natter
By this time people could hardly contain their excitement due to all the juicy raffle prizes on the shelf here. And then the Tass management gave us another armful of bottles, and we sold more tickets . . . .
It wasn't just end-to-end music. Here's folk just getting together for a good chin-wag.
scene
crowd
Another general scene of merriment. With their backs to us here are John Morrison (grey shirt, who sang us The Broom o the Cowdenknowes - very nicely, by the way), and Kevin Parker (blue shirt, Gae Bring Tae Me a Pint o Wine, appropriate for our venue).
We're just about finished, and I'm leading the singing of the Freedom Come All Ye -that's why I'm cut out of the picture :-(
freedom come all ye
larsson the dog
Ah, that's better, I'm in this one. The night's almost over, we're at the last verse of Freedom Come All Ye, we're mellow and reflective, and we've done a dashed good job for Oxfam.
Everybody enjoyed themselves. Even Larsson the Tass Wednesday Session dug !
